Ichthys is the classical Greek word for “fish”. It is an acronym for the Greek phrase Iesous Christos Theou Uios Soter, meaning “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour”. Early Christians, under persecution by the Romans, used this fish symbol as a secret code for identifying each other and for organising worships and gatherings. As Christians, we gather under the Ichthys symbol as a sign of our Christian unity and fidelity to our Lord Jesus Christ.
